Decisions

I've never been one to take much stock in New Years resolutions.  I've been known to make a few in the past, and I doubt that any were ever actually achieved.  IMO resolutions are made to be broken.  People try to convince themselves that they will achieve their goal because after all it's tradition, it's a new year, it's what you do.  I've decided to step out of the resolution business and start making decisions instead.

I'm sure every generation thinks the one before had things easier, I wouldn't say easier, but I would say simpler.  This day and age are ones of tech and social media, and it is tiresome.  I was in the hype for a while, and glad I was because now that I'm not I truly realize how much time I wasted with it.  Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Twitter, all gone.  I really try and restrict the amount of things I'm signed up for out there.  Blogging, sure it takes some time, but it's an outlet, and doesn't require my time every day.

So what is my point?  My point is that I live in Idaho, which is a great state, and I will never leave again.  I shouldn't have left to begin with.  There is such an endless amount of things to do here it's overwhelming.  I think those that live here and have for a while sometimes take it for granted and don't really explore more of the state.  My decision...branch out more.  There are endless opportunities from east to west and north to south in this great state, whether it is fishing, hunting, camping, ghost towns, landscapes, the list is endless.  I want my kids to be able to appreciate the whole state.  The only thing they know is what is between Boise and Grangeville, either on Hwy 55 or Hwy 95.  That's pretty close minded in my eyes.

Now that the kids are getting older it should be a little easier to do some traveling and exploring.  My oldest will be 12 this year, hard to believe.  My wife, and two oldest daughters will be taking hunters education next month.  I'm hoping my oldest will have good luck in some controlled hunts for elk and deer that I plan on putting her in for.  It's easy for me to remember back when I was 12 and started hunting.  I'm hoping to make the times with my kids as memorable as my dad made them for me.

So it's on with 2012 and new adventures, and new explorations.  I hope everyone will be able to make some good decisions this year, ones that will allow you more time with your family.
