Having this blog named "Upland Chronicles" made sense at the time because it was upland game season. But then after that was over I realized there were other things I wanted to blog about during the year. So I pondered and pondered over a new name. Something more generalized, and something that wasn't taken yet. So I've come up with "Western Lands Journal." Note that the actual URL also changed if you need to update any links.
On another note I was lucky enough to draw a spring bear tag here in Idaho. I say lucky because the odds of drawing this particular tag are 1 in 8, 75 tags given out. There are three units in Idaho that have controlled hunts for spring bear, so you can imagine the popularity. This is just the motivation I needed to get back exercising again and watching what I eat. It's funny what it takes to motivate different people. For me I need a goal that I can be excited about. I'm going to be doing some extensive hiking which includes lots of elevation and distance. Ice fishing really doesn't get a person in shape for that. My wife has a gym membership, and she tries to get there at least three times a week. I don't have a membership, so my workout includes walking in the evening when it works out, walking at lunch along the trails of the Boise River, running stairs at home, loading up my pack and walking stairs, riding the exercise bike, and using the total body works home gym. It is a good diverse workout with a lot of change up, which I solely believe in.
So that is what I am currently up to. I have wrapped up ice fishing for the year as it has been raining, and warm weather has started moving in. Ice fishing in the slush is no fun, especially for kids. Spring bear starts April 1st, so I have a few more weeks to get ready. Hopefully the snow line will be friendly and let me get where I need to go.
